12 Easy Tips: MEMORABLE SELF-INTRODUCTIONS (author Renu Mattoo)

Here are a few tips to make the most effective and memorable, yet brief self-introductions: When do you need to make a self-introduction?
  1. When you meet someone or are seated next to someone and both of you are strangers to each other;
  2. When you recognise someone, or know of him, but you are a stranger to him;
  3. When you remember someone you have met briefly, or long ago, but clearly he does not remember you;
  4. When the person introducing you forgets your name!
What should be the aim of your self-introduction?
  1. To ensure attention to yourself and to your business;
  2. To be remembered when you connect at a later point.
What should you do at the moment of self-introduction?
  1. Look for the right time to introduce yourself. If you introduce yourself in a crowd, or when the listener is in a rush to move away, or when loud noises force you to shout, even the best introduction will be lost.
  2. Keep it brief. One minute or less is enough. If you continue to add information, you may dilute the value of the introduction, and weaken the impact of your first few words as you finally close weakly. Know when and how to stop to give your listener the chance to ask a question, or ask for your business card.
  3. Determine the impact you want to make. Identify what you need to highlight for which situation, objective and person. Make the introduction relevant to the interest of the audience, and to your objective.
  4. Do not oversell yourself. You will sound false, and when the truth is out, your integrity will be in doubt. Underselling is as harmful. You will sound unimpressive and not worth anyone’s time.
  5. Maintain good eye contact to show your interest in the other person. Do not, however, stare unblinkingly!
  6. Look happy and interested. Introduce yourself with a smile. Let your facial expression show your enthusiasm in the meeting, and pride in what you do. People are attracted to happy, smiling faces.
  7. Sound alert and involved. Do not sound apologetic, hesitant, or embarrassed. Do not make excuses or offer explanations for what you do not do; rather, talk with enthusiasm and pride about what you do.
  8. Use the right words: Do not say, “Myself Mr Tom”. `Myself’ is grammatically wrong; one should not give himself the honorific `Mr’, `Mrs’, `Miss’, etc.
  9. Announce your name very clearly. If a foreigner has difficulty pronouncing an Indian name such as say, `Sidhartha’ or `Jyotsna’, see if you can make it easy for him by shortening the name to `Sid’ or `Jo’.
  10. Give an interesting twist and focus to your job. Rather than announcing straight off what your occupation or job title is, tell people the benefit of what you do. Instead of `I’m a cross-cultural trainer’, consider, `I help companies understand how to do business successfully with people in different parts of the world’.
  11. Give an unusual, creative and interesting job title to your work if you are an independent, freelance professional. Instead of `I am an Ayurvaid’, introduce yourself as `I am an Alternative Traditional Healer’. It usually grabs the listener’s attention! `What does that mean?’ To add greater value to what you do, instead of `a’, use `The’. Rather than I am a Legal Tax Saver’, say, `I am The Legal Tax Saver’.
  12. Use humour in your self-introduction. Though you could prepare a humorous introduction in advance, you must sound spontaneous! If someone has just introduced himself as `I am Smith, a tax lawyer’, you can connect with that in a humorous way, `And I help add wealth to clients so that they need Mr Smith here! Good evening! My name is Aryan Marwah. I am The Wealth Manager.’ Your introduction will be remembered better that Smith’s. Successful use of humour requires observing what is happening around you, what is being discussed, and how other people are introducing themselves. And, of course, courage and self-confidence!

8 Crucial Tips: ETIQUETTE WHEN SEEKING APPOINTMENTS WITH VIPs (author Renu Mattoo)

While a `cold call’ is a much-used selling technique, when calling on a VIP customer, always take an appointment. The process and words:
  1. If you are able to talk directly to the person you want to meet: Greet and give your full name and the name of your company: “Good morning, Sir / Dr Dhar. My name is Raj Tikoo. I head Marketing with Corporate Arms, a Bangalore-based training firm.”
  2. Explain your purpose for calling, and the time you will need: “I am calling to seek 15 minutes from you to explain what we do and how we can contribute to the skill-growth of your company”.
  3. Add strength to your request: “In your recent interview on TV, you expressed your passion about enhancing the skills of your managers. And that is exactly what we do. So, may I request 15 minutes on any day this or next week at a mutually convenient time. Our visual presentation is barely five minutes long. I’d also like to show with you feedback from our other clients.”
  4. Thank and confirm if you get the time: “Thank you Dr Dhar. I will see you next Wednesday, at 4:30 pm. Thank you again. Good day.”
  5. If you do not get a positive response: “Though I am disappointed, I understand. May I seek an appointment a few months later. Thank you for your time now.”
  6. If you talk to a secretary: “Good morning. I need your help (this usually gets a positive response). My name is Raj Tikoo. I head Marketing with Corporate Arms. I seek 15 minutes time from Dr Dhar to explain how we can contribute (this arouses interest) to the skill-growth of his company.” Remember to thank, regardless of whether you get the appointment or not. Your courtesy will be remembered.
  7. An important tip: The less time you ask for, the sooner you will get your appointment; the more time you ask for, the later you will get your appointment.
  8. Confirm the appointment a day or some hours before the meeting.

True Incident ! Woman-mother herself gave happiness solution to her misunderstandings with husband & prevented.... ?

This is true incident ! (name changed to protect identity)

Jaslyn, Age-37 Yr, Mother of 2 kids (2 yr daughter & 4 yr son), College lecturer, stays in own house, 4 servants, often fight with her husband & usually in complaint mode about her relations & expectations not being fulfilled.

She is not satisfied with her personal-household life, workplace, kids not loving her & her husband not being good as well, often avoiding her.

After few meetings & only listening to her woes, I asked her, whom her husband loves the most in family, quick came the reply, obviously her, because she is so caring about him.

Next question;
  1. Whom does your husband ask for when he enters home?
  2. With whom does he spend maximum time & talks to when he enters home?
Quick came the (very loud) reply, with a happy smile; obviously our 2yr old daughter

Next question, why he does that?

We discovered reason for this behavior; because daughter gives unconditional love, hugs, giggles, climbs on the father, kiss him & does not ask any questions & says you are best father, happy to see you back.

O Dear Lady !, can you please appreciate this & be like that to feel bliss in your life. Kids are pure & we can learn a lot from them.

Forgive me for this;
Your home is a home, it's not a college & you husband is not your student. Stop being like a teacher, who is always asking her husband, have you done this/that, specially when he enters home.

Never spoke this: I wish she wear clothes which enhance her femininity at home, walk like a nature's breeze & stop smelling like a car leather.

Women are always right, they think/care so much & are correctly justified in their concerns.

However they usually do not realise, excessive speaking, questioning when husband returns home is like a interrogation chamber by law enforcement higher authority. It is too stress-full a situation, allow him to unwind, have patience.
Can you spot more hidden messages. misconceptions & learning?

Reply to comment by a lady,

Thanks Jane for comments, This is true incident. The lady "Jaslyn" always acknowledged, her husband is the best, he has provided all the luxuries, good house, servants, he is so caring & pays for everything; her shopping, her dress, good food....... The message can be interpreted in various ways, women are always right, rephrasing communication & timing of request will amaze everyone. I am humble ordinary human being & shared true incident.

I also understand, I am not a woman, however I have genuine interest to help others. With men, I am direct & always sensitise them, that you have to play all roles of Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, Husband to make your spouse comfortable & win her heart.

There is something beyond; which is vibrations, intentions, law of attraction.

Everything is fine, all depends upon the final expected outcome by anyone, after all, its ones own life & own choice. Consequences/outcomes/gratifications are short term or long term accordingly.

Persistence to nurture relations at any partner's end is the key to success to have bliss.

Best wishes, Warmly

Thanks Jane, Greetings for the day, for taking time out & sharing your views.

For me, Equality, Fairness, Inclusion also involves collaboration, being mindfully aware of strengths & most important being natural, God Has created 2 gender, differently, with complimenting strengths & abilities. For me it is inclusion & leveraging gender (and differently- able) strengths. Filling numbers, no way help anyone.

During the experiential learning workshops, definitions & understanding of equality is as different as our fingerprints.

I prefer to share, real examples, what has worked for happiness. When there is genuine desire for men-women in professional/personal relations to make things work; universe conspires to ensure desired vibrations are in place to help nurture & grow.

When people take a break, to enjoy what they do naturally in our Outbound activities (femininity=nature, which is undefined by God), solutions emerge.

I would suggest, do take time out & read more on my blog to appreciate complete picture.

During activities; A useless watch is correct, twice a day, is my preferred icebreaker, whenever there is breakdown in relations/communications.

Adding on,

We go beyond; during outbound activities, employers, managers & leaders, realise; in fact it emerges naturally what they have been missing by not being gender & differently able inclusive.

We focus on meaningful engagement & how strengths can be leveraged, going beyond mere numbers, so that happiness is inclusive, perhaps UK is much ahead.

Why don't you enrich my knowledge, how HR at your country ensures this.

Let's connect on skype & build better inclusive world, where gender & differently able are valued & respected for their strengths naturally

Life is bliss
Best wishes

Strange, today I won over a point with my wife !

Strange,  today I won over a point with my wife ! that her love will cure her father's eye after surgery faster than any doctor can. Stop being like your mother for next 30 days to your father....Unconditional appreciation, acceptance, love is something I love about my daughter always

O Father ! When will you realise Job & qualifications are only to improve your daughter's life

O Father ! When will you realise Job & qualifications are only to improve your daughter's life & not to have upper hand over prospective groom. Boys want to marry a girl full of feminine traits. Who want to marry a man in feminine body

O Man ! the bond between father & daughter is UN-explainable

O Man ! the bond between father & daughter is UN-explainable; infinite, unconditional love..... When you marry a girl, you must remember, your spouse is also someone's daughter.

O Dear Sister ! you are 38 yrs, when will you nurture & raise a family.

O Dear Sister ! you are 38 yrs, when will you nurture & raise a family. You got to learn to share, you drive your life & car with stress & excessive race, park your car in middle of driveway, walk too fast, entire washroom dedicated to you only for your use, bedroom & wardrobe has no space; your physique & walking no longer resembles a free flowing bubbling river. Don't be a corporate slave, You are not a money making machine. What will you do after 65 (retirement) without relations.

O Father, allow her to be natural, start to find goodness in men (prospective groom)....a well wisher

Why should be define feminism?

Why should be define feminism? God has created nature-Mother Earth-Feminism undefined, without any logic & this is the reason, mystery, attraction, infinite love & affection, Stay blessed & do so for others
